Committee on Ministry

Meeting Time:
Every first Thursday at 7:00 p.m., Atkinson Memorial Church

Purpose:
Serve as a resource for the assessment of the quality of the total ministry within the congregation, including, but not limited to, the minister.

Structure:
Five members: the minister, two chosen by the Board and two chosen by the minister.

Responsibilities:
Addresses concerns that are uniquely confidential, outside of or too delicate to be handled through the Board or other committee. Fills in ministry gaps, e.g. "we need a second newsletter for better communication, field accolades/complaints regarding the minister and process as to how to address, provide/determine means of assessment of ministry with Board approval.

Description:
The idea of "ministry" goes further than just the person who we have called to serve as our minister. In fact, if you think of the word "ministry," we are all ministering to one another. Ministry in this sense means all the ways we, as church members, interact with one another and includes the worship services, the music, the care we give one another, yes, even serving on a committee or washing dishes.

Indeed, it becomes difficult, sometimes, to separate the individual ministry of our minister from the collective ministry of the church and its members. Because of this blending of roles, it may at times be unclear exactly where you should turn with specific questions, concerns or problems.

The committee serves as both a feedback group and sounding board for the minister and as a communication channel between the minister and the congregation. It attempts to keep its finger on the pulse of the church and the role our minister is playing in it.

The committee on ministry welcomes feedback from the congregation. Please approach any of us individually, or during our monthly meeting. We will honor you and everything you say with the strictest confidence.
