What Do You See?
Words and Music by Jim Dana
I see an act of kindness
On the part of a gentle man
And I know that there's a story
'been passed down from hand to hand
But if I never hear that story
If I never read the book
Is the kindness lost upon me
Every time I stop and look.
Chorus:
What do you see when you look out the window
Into the light, when the light is shining through
What do you see . . . Shining in on you?
(I see a)
man being so humble
With a yearning for the truth
He's a seeker of a message
With the passing of his youth
And at times I feel just like him
In this searching of my own
for humility and honesty
Where I must walk alone.
(Chorus)
It's just sunlight being filtered
through the pigment of the glass
But to some it's a reminder
of a dark and distant past
While still others feel the glory
of the stories told within
And it always looks so different
from the outside looking in.
I feel a sense of history
A connection to the past
Many eyes have gazed upon them
For many years their light has cast
A kaleidoscope of color
From the artists loving hands
And a gift for all who come here
Seeking light from where we stand.
(Chorus)
